Inclusive Justice Taskforce launched to help people with invisible needs
A new task force has been set up to help people with invisible needs better navigate Singapore’s criminal justice system.
Named the Inclusive Justice Taskforce, the group will review the local criminal justice process – from the pre-offending stages and criminal investigations, to the court processes, sentencing and post-sentencing support measures – so as to find out how to better support them.
It will be co-chaired by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Social and Family Development Eric Chua and veteran lawyer Peggy Yee, the founding director of law firm PY Legal.
The task force will comprise professionals like lawyers, policymakers, law enforcement officers, social service professionals and healthcare experts. The full list of members can be found here: https://www.mlaw.gov.sg/files/Annex_List_of_Inclusive_Justice_Taskforce_members.pdf .
In an CNA article, Yee said, “Individuals with mental health conditions and disabilities are often unable to advocate for themselves and would benefit from dedicated support in navigating the justice system.”
